First Day of First Grade

Its official – school’s back in session and I have a first grader!! That’s right, my son Cael’s first day of school was last Monday and it was a busy week getting adjusted to the “school schedule” again. Between Cael’s homework and football practice to keeping up with my daughter, Stella and my husband, Lance, I’m looking for ways to fine-tune how I budget my money AND my time. One thing I always do to save time throughout the week is plan ahead. We sit down every weekend and outline our meals for the week. This saves so much time during the week because we’re not sitting around debating what to have for dinner. This also saves money as we don’t end up driving through somewhere and eating an unhealthy meal.

How’s everyone else adjusting to the back-to-school grind?

And if for some reason you still haven’t started back-to-school shopping, check out tips from my CommunityAmerica Savin’ Maven colleague Jason Armstrong from a recent KMBC interview.

Thanks for the back-to-school tips. As my oldest daughter started kindergarten this last week I have been searching for time saving and of course budget saving ideas. I really like the weekly meal planning idea. You could even incorporate your grocery store’s weekly circular and find out that weeks sales and specials.
As a busy working mom I love all the tips. Keep up the good work.

Hi Rachel – thanks for your comment. Congrats on your oldest starting kindergarten; they grow up so quickly, don’t they? I really like your tip about using grocery store circulars – great suggestion.
